Iron Furnace Park

(Click a picture for a different view.)
Approximately 25 years ago, the furnace was refurbished, and the area of the forecourt converted to a public park, where many of the Lonaconing and George's Creek events take place.

The park and furnace area is open to the public all year around - no admission charge - and the park is decorated and lighted during most of December. Being a city park supported basically by the town of Lonaconing, there is at present no visitor center or park staffing. Ocassionally, some of the park grounds are partitioned off for private events.

For event schedules, or to arrange for a
private event, please contact the Town --

OTHER NOTES - - -

A detailed description and a colored, detailed drawing of what is thought to be the entire operational furnace is mounted in the park on the lower terrace, somewhat to the right of the structure.

Another copy of the drawing and explanation and an extensive description of the history of the furnace is kept at the George's Creek Library, history room, on Main Street in Lonaconing.
